When one of the country's largest producers of electricity took one of their largest oil storage tanks out of service for scheduled maintenance they turned to TriStar PetroServ to manage the cleaning of the vessel and recovery of the contaminated sludge in the bottom of the vessel.
"In today's business world every asset of a power company has an economic value that is associated with its operation, or in this case, an opportunity cost associated with its being out of service. That is why adherence to the project schedule is so vitally important" said Tom McQueary, President of TriStar PetroServ.
TriStar has a proven ability to operate in the refining, power generation and industrial market place and more importantly the experience and ability to handle changes in scope with aplomb. In the case of this customer the vessel was 270 feet in diameter and was originally expected to contain 33,000 barrels of product and 50 tons of solids. By the time TriStar arrived on site the scope had changed to 62,000 barrels and over 250 tons of solids in the vessel.
McQueary's solution to the problem was typical of Tristar's approach to any obstacle. "We recognized that while the scope had increased by orders of magnitude the customer's timeline (and expectations) had not budged. With their approval and cooperation we mobilized in extra equipment and manpower to handle the increases in volume. The effort was a total success in that we handled a 200% increase in volume and a 500% increase in solids with only a five day increase in schedule which was within the margin for error allotted by the customer in their project planning".
"No other tank cleaning company in the country has the dedicated personnel or wholly owned equipment to handle this kind of change in scope without impacting their other work. The customers who already know us rely on this type of support and new customers are pleasantly surprised that they made the right choice when problems arise in their carefully defined plans".
